Trust House was founded in 1970 as a crisis hotline and an emergency shelter by a group of then-Hollins College students, faculty and staff. Located in Old Southwest Roanoke, Trust House has since evolved into a 29-bed homeless shelter for individuals, families, and veterans in order to meet the needs of our community.
Staff at Trust House provide the initial stabilization through case management services so that clients can exit the cycle of homelessness. These services include assistance with accessing resources, applying for mainstream benefits, and referrals to outside agencies for additional supports such as employment. We utilize a low barrier, housing first model of shelter, which means shelter is provided regardless of a client's current sobriety, to ensure that homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.
At ARCH, we specialize in meeting clients where they are, and then helping them find their own way home.
We partner with the Salem VA Medical Center and the City of Roanoke's Central Intake for shelter placement.
